"If I could write you a song to make you fall in love..."

It's amazing. One day you can be sitting there without a thought in the world, with no ideas, no subjects, no lyrics and not an original chord to your fingers but then another day bam! You're knocking out original song after song after song!

I'm blogging this for you as I am currently back in writing mode. This means that I'll pretty much spend the entirety of my day thinking of subjects, lyrics and alternate chords patterns. Enough to drive anyone mad ay? Na..not quite. Don't get me wrong you'll find yourself climbing the walls when a song just can't fit together and nothing will flow from pen to paper but when you get one of those days it's magic!

Just finished putting together three new songs for the new album (due out Christmas this year in case you were curious). The plan is it'll include quite a few new original songs but most importantly there'll be a loads of my covers on it too. And this leads me back to my main point...writing a song.

Amazing how easily a familiar chord structure, melody or lyrical verse can sneak into your writing and you'll be surprised just how hard it is to even get a decent enough subject to warrant writing about! Funny isn't it, best I get better at this if my life pans out the way I hope it will! For some people it comes so naturally, Chris Martin, Adam Levine and Chris Daughtry spring immediately to mind, but for me I'm just starting out.

There's some new songs that I think (hope) you'll all like going on the new album. A couple I've already previewed on YouTube 'Look What You've Done To Me' and 'What You Mean To Me' which have had great responses (thank you guys).

'Look What You've Done To Me' is a very kind of F-you song, mainly written when there seemed to be a lot of anger in me...hmm...written quite a few angry songs lately lol. It's basically about a relationship being one-sided and giving all you've got and getting nothing back. On the other hand 'What You Mean To Me' is actually one of my first 'love songs', seemed to just squeeze that one out before it all went angry again. The next few 'I Can Hurt You Too' for example has been on YouTube for a little while now. Added that about a year ago I think and once again that's basically about a relationship that just isn't working. The next few which I'm yet to preview (stay tuned) have some similar but also varied themes. 'Your Excuse' is another F-you song, about taking the blame for everything and your name being mud even though you're the only thing holding it together. 'What We Deserve' is kind of a ballad/driving song. Only just finished writing it today (24th Oct). It's basically about the thrill of driving fast but then the tragedy when it all goes wrong. And finally...(so far)...there is a currently unnamed song written about a friend of mine who just can't seem to find the right guy...so I guess another love song! lol.

It's funny though as the majority of these songs were written together, juggling multiple songs at once and adding bits and swapping them between the drafts...never thought I could multitask that well! Can't wait for you guys to hear them! I'm planning on making this album as a big evolution from 'A Brief History Of Us'. I feel 'ABHOU' was rushed towards the end and it's far from the polished article I dreamt of. Although I did add a lot of backing and instruments to it, I've decided with the new album (due out for Christmas 2011...incase I hadn't mentioned that ha-ha) is to strip it back to basics and bring my music back to it's roots. I dream of having a band behind me and having that fuller sound but it's not something I think you can replicate with a beat box and a keyboard so there won't be any fancy backing. Just my voice and my guitar...I think for now it works best like that. The main reports I had from 'A Brief History Of Us' was that everyone's favourite song was 'Don't Heal' and that was exactly the sound I wanted on album no.3 (yes, there was an earlier release). So I guess come December this year I'll know what you guys think.

Right, off to grab the Tak' and carry on trying to write the next chart smasher!

Till the next time....all the best :)
